Winslow School Hazardous Material Abatement- Completed August 2024

Funded by two separate capital appropriations from Town Meetings going back to 2018, this project saw the full abatement of hazardous materials, specifically asbestos and suspected asbestos, from the Winslow School. Work under this contract was required to be completed whether the building was renovated or demolished. In March of 2024, the Town awarded a contract to Green Environmental for this work and the work commenced shortly thereafter. This work is the reason that the exterior of the Winslow School is currently covered in a yellow Tyvek wrap. Asbestos containing materials (ACMs) were found in the clapboards of the building and needed to be abated. To preserve the interior of the building through this phase, the contractor was required to install this Tyvek wrapping. As of Augustg 2024, all of the hazardous material was removed from site, the building was made weather tight, and nearly a dozen of the original windows were removed from the site, abated, restored, and returned to the building.
